Within the framework of the \u201cGreen Urban Resilience \u2013 Green Adaptation Solutions for Smart and Resilient Cities in the Black Sea Basin\u201d<\/strong> project, supported by the European Union, a series of urban temperature measurement campaigns<\/strong> have been launched in partner cities to identify and mitigate urban heat stress<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Batumi, Georgia \u2013 19 July 2025<\/strong>
The first ground-level temperature measurements of the project were carried out by LANDLAB experts<\/strong> in Batumi. Using advanced thermal devices, surface temperatures were recorded across various urban locations, pinpointing the areas most affected by the Urban Heat Island (UHI)<\/strong> effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uzunk\u00f6pr\u00fc, T\u00fcrkiye \u2013 July 2025<\/strong>
In Uzunk\u00f6pr\u00fc, drone-based thermal imaging<\/strong> was conducted over the site of a future climate-resilient park and its surroundings. Once the park is completed, a second round of measurements will be performed to scientifically assess the park\u2019s cooling impact<\/strong> on the urban microclimate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sozopol, Bulgaria \u2013 Early August 2025<\/strong>
Thermal measurements were performed across different zones of Sozopol to detect heat accumulation hotspots<\/strong>. The findings will help guide the integration of green infrastructure<\/strong> into local urban planning, targeting the most heat-stressed areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kavala, Greece \u2013 11\u201312 August 2025<\/strong>
In Kavala, measurements took place over two days. The first day focused on on-site assessments<\/strong> to identify priority locations, while the second day saw joint fieldwork<\/strong> by the Kavala expert team and LANDLAB specialists, collecting detailed surface temperature data from selected sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All collected data will feed into the creation of high-resolution urban heat maps<\/strong> for each city, providing a solid evidence base for nature-based cooling solutions<\/strong>. These efforts aim to make Black Sea cities cooler, healthier, and more climate-resilient<\/strong>\u2014improving the quality of life for residents while combating the local impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
